Dear readers,Welcome to our newsletter! Four times a year, we will showcase our recent work and upcoming projects. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is a German political foundation that is politically associated with but legally and financially independent of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). In Canada, we seek to intensify political cooperation between Germany and Canada to strengthen transatlantic relations and to address common challenges of global nature. In October 2019, we opened our first Canadian office in Ottawa that regularly organizes public events, such as conferences, podium discussions and webinars, and publishes short videos and electronic publications throughout the year.
After celebrating our two year anniversary in Ottawa in October 2021, we are excited to further our work in the Capital and across the country. Take a look below to see what we have been up to. Don't forget to click on our social media channels at the bottom of the page to stay up to date!

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, in Berlin, Germany. He was joined by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly. Prime Minister Trudeau and Chancellor Scholz strongly condemned Russia’s ongoing military aggression against the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine. They called for Russia’s immediate withdrawal of military forces, and the urgent need for civilians to be able to access humanitarian corridors and assistance.

Dear friends of KAS Canada, Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. We at the Ottawa Office would not have thought that the first issue would appear at such a difficult time for the world. What is currently happening in Ukraine cannot leave anyone indifferent and it will change our lives in one way or another. In this section of the Newsletter, I would like to draw your attention here to other things worth knowing. May I recommend you an interesting book today? A little advertising on Germany’s behalf: John Kampfner, Why the Germans Do it Better. Notes from a Grown-Up Country. London: Atlantic Books. 2021. I wish you an interesting read!
With best regards,
Yours, Dr. Norbert Eschborn, Director of KAS Canada
